Why We Built CheckMyMOT
Checking whether a car is legally roadworthy shouldn't mean digging through several different government pages. So we built one place to see it all in seconds.
The Problem We Set Out to Solve
Every MOT and tax record for every UK vehicle already exists in official government systems. But before you can act on that information — decide whether it's safe to drive, book a retest, or simply stop worrying — you often have to know which government tool to use, enter your details more than once, and piece the answer together yourself. Missed MOT and tax renewal dates are also one of the most common (and most avoidable) reasons drivers end up with fines or invalid insurance, usually because the reminder simply never happened.
We wanted a faster, plainer-English answer to one simple question: "Is this car legal to drive right now, and when do I need to act next?"

Where Our Data Comes From
Every result on CheckMyMOT is pulled in real time from official UK government sources — the DVLA Vehicle Enquiry Service and the DVSA MOT history records — the same data your local garage or the police would see. We don't scrape, estimate, or guess: if gov.uk shows it, we show it, just laid out more simply.
